Asselin scores two goals, adds assist to power Generals past Spirit @NHLdotcom

OSHAWA, Ont. - Patrick Asselin had two goals and an assist to lead the Oshawa Generals the Saginaw Spirit 4-2 on Thursday in the OHL.

Asselin, who was the Spirit's captain before being dealt to the Generals earlier this season, opened the scoring 7:58 into the game and put home the winner midway through the third period.

Brett MacLean also scored twice for Oshawa, the second into an empty net, upping his league-leading goal total to 33.

Jack Combs had a goal and an assist for the Spirit, but was stopped on a breakaway late in the game with his team down by one.

Jason McDonough scored the other Saginaw goal, giving the visitors a brief 2-1 lead in the second period.

Jakub Kovar made 38 saves in goal for the Generals, while Ryan Daniels stopped 32 for the Spirit.
