Armstrong stops 20 shots, Cowen nets OT winner as Chiefs down Blades 3-2 @NHL

SPOKANE, Wash. - Kevin Armstrong stopped 20 shots, rookie defenceman Jared Cowen netted the game-winning goal and the Spokane Chiefs earned a 3-2 WHL victory Friday night over the Saskatoon Blades.

Cowen's game-winner came at 10:13 in the third period. Chiefs captain Chris Bruton found Cowen in the high slot and Cowen swatted the puck between Saskatoon (3-6-1-0) goalie Braden Holtby's legs.

The Chiefs (6-2-1-1) got on the board first in the opening period when leading scorer Drayson Bowman scored his seventh goal of the season on assists from Jared Spurgeon and import winger Ondrej Roman during a power play at 5:59.

Saskatoon's Colton Gillies evened the score at 11:23 to go into the second frame tied 1-1.

The Blades took the 2-1 lead at 10:13 in the second, converting on a power play, when Stefan Elliot set up teammate Ondrej Fiala.

Spokane native Tyler Johnson scored the third goal of his WHL career on assists from Cowen and recently-acquired forward Ryan Letts at 17:08 to even the score at 2-all before the end of the second.
