Seven score for Sharks in shootout win against Coyotes

SAN JOSE -- Seven players scored for the San Jose Sharks in an 8-7 shootout win against the Arizona Coyotes at SAP Center on Tuesday.

Logan Couture, Timo Meier and Alexander Barabanov each had a goal and an assist for the Sharks (16-14-1), who hadn't played since Dec. 16. James Reimer made 39 saves.
"Obviously happy to get the two points, I'll never complain about that, but it was a frustrating game to coach," San Jose coach Bob Boughner said. "I thought we settled down, but we couldn't keep a lead."
Lawson Crouse and Phil Kessel each scored four points, and Andrew Ladd tied it with 1:29 remaining in the third period for the Coyotes (6-21-3), who played for the first time since Dec. 17. J.J. Moser scored his first two NHL goals.
"There were a lot of breakdowns on both sides, a lot of turnovers a lot of stuff like that," Arizona coach Andre Tourigny said. "That's what happens when you're not playing for 11 days."

The Coyotes rallied in the third when Shayne Gostisbehere scored on a shot from Kessel to make it 7-6 at 16:51 before Ladd tied it 7-7 with a power-play goal at 18:31.
"I liked the character we showed, we came from behind a few times and came back to tie the game," Tourigny said. "Showed a lot of passion. There's a lot of positive and there's a lot of stuff to work on. When you're out for 11 days that stuff happens, but I liked the way the guys stayed with it."
Barabanov made it 1-0 at 2:46 of the first period when he tipped in a shot by Couture.
Crouse tied it 1-1 at 5:36 with a shot from the left face-off circle.
Nick Bonino gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead with a backhand shot at 11:22.
Moser's first NHL goal tied it 2-2 at 17:40 after a turnover behind the net by Sharks defenseman Brent Burns.
Radim Simek scored his first of the season with a shot from the point to give San Jose a 3-2 lead at 5:27 of the second period. Jeffrey Viel, a 24-year-old forward, scored his first NHL goal seven seconds later to make it 4-2 at 5:34.
"It means a lot," Viel said. "Obviously a lucky bounce, but I'll take it."

Clayton Keller cut it to 4-3 at 7:48 with a wrist shot from the left circle after a backhand feed from Kessel.
Meier gave the Sharks a 5-3 lead at 14:13 when he swatted the puck out of the air past Scott Wedgewood's blocker.
Moser, a 21-year-old defenseman, scored his second of the game on a power play at 19:37 to make it 5-4.
"I'm just glad that I could help the team," Moser said. "Those pucks, or at least one of them, will be at my apartment. Or maybe I'll ship it home."
Tomas Hertl scored his 15th goal of the season at 1:44 of the third period to give the Sharks a 6-4 lead.
Crouse scored his second goal on a rebound at 7:35 to make it 6-5.
"You give up a two-goal lead once, OK, that happens in the game, but to do that three times, that's just over the top," Boughner said. "I don't think [Reimer] was at his best, but he didn't have a lot of support. On a couple of goals, guys were standing around."

Couture made it 7-5 at 13:00 when Barabanov set him up with a no-look pass.
Couture and Hertl each scored in the shootout. Nick Schmaltz shot wide, and Reimer, who made five saves in overtime, sealed it with a save against Keller.
"It was almost like pond hockey," Hertl said. "We got the two points, but we got lucky. We can't play like that."
Wedgewood made 20 saves for Arizona.
NOTES: The Sharks became the third team to score twice in seven seconds or fewer this season, joining the Tampa Bay Lightning (five seconds on Nov. 30) and Toronto Maple Leafs (seven seconds, Dec. 7). … Burns played 28:03 and was plus-4 in his 1,200th NHL game. ... San Jose forward Jayden Halbgewachs scored his first NHL point with an assist on Simek's goal. ... Kessel had four assists for the second time in his NHL career (March 26, 2016, with the Pittsburgh Penguins). … Coyotes forward Johan Larsson had three assists.
