Mrazek makes 23 saves, Hurricanes shut out Coyotes to end three-game skid

RALEIGH, N.C.-- Petr Mrazek made 23 saves and the Carolina Hurricanes shut out the Arizona Coyotes 3-0 at PNC Arena on Sunday.

Warren Foegele, Andrei Svechnikov and Sebastian Aho scored for the Hurricanes (14-13-5), who had lost three in a row (0-2-1).
"We just stuck to our game plan which was nice to see," Hurricanes coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "When we did have a couple breakdowns, Petr was really good. It certainly wasn't a dominating performance by us."

The shutout was the first of the season for Carolina and the first for Mrazek with the Hurricanes, who signed the goalie as a free agent to a a one-year, $1.5 million contract on July 1. Calvin de Haan had two assists.
"I did see the puck really well," Mrazek said. "That was the key today, playing good in the defensive zone. We managed the puck really well."
Adin Hill made 24 saves for the Coyotes (14-16-2), who have lost five of their past six.
"We just put ourselves in a hole," Arizona forward Josh Archibald said. "We got away from our game, had a couple turnovers and got behind the eight ball. We've got to stop doing that to ourselves."
Foegele gave the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead at 9:44 of the second period when he connected on the long rebound of de Haan's shot. Foegele had gone 24 games without a point.

"You kind of question your abilities, and things get in your head that shouldn't," Foegele. "But I felt pretty good the past couple days with my energy, so it felt pretty good going in today."
The Hurricanes made it 2-0 at 13:44 after Justin Faulk fed Svechnikov on a 2-on-1 for his ninth goal of the season.
Aho scored his team-leading 12th goal of the season on a snap shot from the left circle to make it 3-0 at 4:32 of the third period. Aho extended his point streak to five games (five goals, three assists).
"I think he's been playing pretty well," Brind'Amour said. "Every game you're seeing that dynamic stuff now, what we were missing in the first 10 or 15 games."
Alex Galchenyuk returned to the lineup for the Coyotes after missing three games with a lower-body injury. He had one shot in 13:48 of ice time.
"We had a couple chances and we didn't capitalize on them," said Galchenyuk, who skated with Brad Richardson and Archibald. "We've got to go to the net more and we've got to get shots through."

The Coyotes were shut out for the fifth time this season. … Clark Bishop, Janne Kuokkanen and Scott Darling were sent to Charlotte of the American Hockey League after the game. Williams has a five-game point streak (three goals, two assists). Faulk played in his 509th game with the Hurricanes, passing Chad LaRose for 10th in Carolina history.
