ERIE, Pa. - The Erie Otters snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-3 win over the Belleville Bulls in Ontario Hockey League action Thursday night.
Anthony Luciani led the way for Erie with two goals, while Mike Cazzola added a goal and two assists. Derek Holden finished with a goal and an assist.
The Bulls (9-15-4) built a 1-0 lead on Michael Curtis' rebound goal at 14:16 of the first. But the Otters responded with two quick goals to cap an otherwise lacklustre first period.
Luciani's rebound of Paul Cianfrini's point shot tied the score with 39 seconds left. Nine seconds later, a delay of game penalty handed the Otters a power play and 11 seconds after that, Holden's redirection of Greg McKegg's pass gave Erie a 2-1 lead after one.
Holden has scored goals in consecutive games after going scoreless in his first 104 career games.
Luciani's second of the night extended the Erie lead to 3-1 at the 6:28 mark of the second.
Cazzola's goal at 13:57 the second - his 10th goal in 12 games - ended the night for Bulls goaltender Philipp Grubauer. He allowed four goals on 29 shots.
The Otters (10-11-5) finished the period with a season-high 46 shots - 16 more than the Bulls.
Erie's offensive onslaught continued against backup Tyson Teichmann in the opening minute of the third. Zack Torquato turned Cazzola's pass into his 11th goal of the season for a 5-1 lead.
Belleville got its second of the night at 8:09 of the third thanks to Adam Payerl.
Otters goaltender Jaroslav Janus left the game after the goal with an apparent right leg problem. He finished with 20 saves to pick up the win.
