Andrew Cogliano signed a one-year contract with the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

The 35-year-old forward, who could have become an unrestricted free agent on July 13, had 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 74 regular-season games for the Avalanche and San Jose Sharks this season, including one assist in 18 games after he was acquired in a trade with the Sharks on March 21.
Cogliano had six points (three goals, three assists) in 16 Stanley Cup Playoff games to help the Avalanche win the Stanley Cup for the first time since 2001. He was fourth on the team (second among forwards) with 2:07 of shorthanded ice time per game in the postseason, helping Colorado go 17-for-19 (89.5 percent) on the penalty kill during the Cup Final, when it defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.
"I've been in the League for a long time," Cogliano said. "You have thoughts, you have things that go through your head, but I really felt after us winning (the Cup) and me playing on the team and me being a part of the group and seeing what the Avalanche are all about, I just found another level of intensity, I found another level of motivation that I was excited to push again.
"I thought it was one of the most enjoyable experiences, enjoyable moments and three months of hockey that I've played in a long time, if not the most enjoyable. So, all those factoring in, I thought to myself, you have a chance to return and go into a season as a team that's won. That's something, I really wanted that feeling."
Selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round (No. 25) of the 2005 NHL Draft, Cogliano has 426 points (174 goals, 252 assists) in 1,140 regular-season games for the Avalanche, Sharks, Dallas Stars, Anaheim Ducks and Oilers, and 35 points (13 goals, 22assists) in 116 playoff games.
"Andrew was such a big part of our Stanley Cup championship with his leadership and veteran presence," Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic said. "He battled back from various injuries throughout the playoffs and played key minutes for us when we needed it the most. He's a great teammate who works hard on and off the ice and sets a great example for the rest of the group. We're excited to have him back for another season."
