CRANBROOK, B.C. - Kootenay Ice captain Andrew Bailey scored two third period breakaway goals in a 5-2 win over the Medicine Hat Tigers in Western Hockey League action on Sunday night.
The Ice opened the scoring on Kevin King's power-play goal.
The Tigers tied it on a 4-on-3 power-play as Tomas Kundratek was left alone in the slot and scored on a wrist shot on the stick side.
The Ice regained the lead on a 2-on-1 break as Drew Czerwonka finished a pass from Steele Boomer.
Kootenay (35-29-2-3) made it 3-1 as Dominik Pacovsky stole the puck in the Tigers' and fed Bailey, who raced out to a partial breakaway and scored on a backhand deke.
Ian Barteaux made it 4-1 on a delayed penalty when he scored with a slapshot through the goaltender Tyler Bunz's legs.
The Tigers (35-28-4-3) had only one shot on goal in the third, and it went in the net when Josh Koper's shot went off an Ice player and behind Kootenay goaltender Todd Mathews.
Bailey ended the scoring on a breakaway with a wrist shot high on the glove side.
Matthews finished with 21 saves. Bunz stopped 39 shots.
