Tavares scores No. 41, Maple Leafs sweep season series from Sabres
John Tavares had two points (one goal, one assist) for the Maple Leafs in a 4-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres at KeyBank Center. The center scored his 41st goal of the season, the most by a Maple Leafs player since Mats Sundin (80 points; 41 goals, 39 assists) in 2001-02, and one shy of tying Eddie Olczyk (42 in 1987-88) for most by a skater during his first season in Toronto.
Tavares (81 points; 41 goals, 40 assists) and forward Mitchell Marner (86 points; 25 goals, 61 assists) are the second pair of Maple Leafs each with at least 80 points in one season since Dave Andreychuk (99 points; 53 goals, 46 assists) and Doug Gilmour (111 points; 27 goals, 84 assists) in 1993-94.
Center Auston Matthews had two points (one goal, one assist) to reach 200 in his NHL career and help Toronto sweep a season series against the Sabres for the first time in its history. The Maple Leafs (44-25-5) moved to within four points of the idle Boston Bruins (44-20-9) for second place in the Atlantic Division; the Bruins have a game in hand.

Scheifele powers Jets to 20th road win

The victory was the Jets' 20th on the road to match their single-season record set in 2006-07 and matched in 2014-15 and 2017-18.
Scheifele become the fourth player in Jets/Atlanta Thrashers history with multiple 80-point seasons, joining Ilya Kovalchuk (four times) and Blake Wheeler and Marian Hossa (twice each).
Goalie Connor Hellebuyck earned his first shutout this season with 29 saves for the Jets (44-25-4), who lead the Nashville Predators (42-27-5) by three points for first place in the Central Division; the Predators have a game in hand.
