signed a one-year, $1.2 million contract with the Los Angeles Kings on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old forward scored 26 points (11 goals, 15 assists) in 55 games for the Edmonton Oilers and Detroit Red Wings last season, including two points (one goal, one assist) in nine games after he was traded to Edmonton on Feb. 24. He didn't score a point in four games in the Stanley Cup Qualifiers.
Selected by Detroit in the fourth round (No. 110) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Athanasiou has scored 156 points (84 goals, 72 assists) in 303 regular-season games and one goal in nine Stanley Cup Playoff games.
