1.22 Zegras ANA

Trevor Zegras will break away and join Anaheim Ducks teammates Troy Terry and John Gibson at the 2022 NHL All-Star Weekend.

The rookie forward announced Saturday he will compete in the Breakaway Challenge, which is returning at the NHL All-Star Skills presented by DraftKings Sportsbook on Feb. 4 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas (7:30 p.m. ET; ESPN, SN, TVAS).
"I got a call from the League, I'm going to be doing the Breakaway Challenge at the All-Star Game," Zegras said. "I'm honored to be joining Troy and 'Gibby.' It's going to be a fun weekend. See you guys in Vegas."

The Breakaway Challenge debuted in 2008 and was discontinued after the 2016 All-Star Weekend. It allows players to show off their skill and creativity on a breakaway play.
Fans can count on Zegras for creativity, especially after watching him serve up one of the craftiest assists of the season with a Michigan-style pass to forward Sonny Milano against the Buffalo Sabres on Dec. 7.

Past Breakaway Challenges saw plenty of costumes and color. Washington Capitals forward and three-time Breakaway Challenge champion Alex Ovechkin wore big, white sunglasses and a bucket hat with a Canada flag pinned to it before securing his first Breakaway Challenge victory in 2009.
In 2016, San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns donned a Chewbacca mask, and New Jersey Devils defenseman P.K. Subban paid tribute to Jaromír Jágr by wearing a long, lucious wig. Subban ended his backhand goal with a salute to one of hockey's best and skated away a Breakaway Challenge champion.

It will be fun to see what tricks Zegras and others have up their jersey this year.
