Preview: Ducks at Hurricanes

Carolina defenseman Justin Faulk still out with injury; Anaheim aims to rebound after OT loss

by Kurt Dusterberg / Correspondent

DUCKS (6-5-3) at HURRICANES (3-5-4)

Ducks team scope

The Anaheim Ducks, who didn't have a morning skate, will try to rebound from a 3-2 overtime loss at the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday. Anaheim rallied from a 2-0 first-period deficit on goals by Rickard Rakell and Nick Ritchie to get a point. Defenseman Hampus Lindholm skated 18:33 in his season debut. He ended a holdout when he signed a six-year, $31.5 million contract on Oct. 27. "It felt all right out there," Lindholm said. "I managed my game decently, I think, and had one long shift there. I stayed out a little too long and got tired, but other than that it was a decent start." The Ducks will complete their fourth back-to-back set of the season. They are 1-1-1 in the second games.

Hurricanes team scope

Goaltender Cam Ward will start for the Carolina Hurricanes, who begin a five-game homestand after playing nine of their first 12 games on the road. Justin Faulk, who skated Thursday morning, will miss his second straight game after sustaining an upper-body injury against the New Jersey Devils on Sunday. Coach Bill Peters said the defenseman is "getting closer." Faulk's absence on the power play creates an opportunity for others on the blue line. "There's other guys who have played on the power play their whole life. They want to be back on it. We've got some guys who can step in there," Peters said. Klas Dahlbeck, who scored his first Hurricanes goal in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Devils on Tuesday, will be paired on defense with Jakub Nakladal for the second straight game.
