Ducks team scope

The Anaheim Ducks have earned points in four consecutive games (3-0-1) and seven of their past nine (5-2-2), including a 3-2 overtime loss at the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. The Ducks have yet to win in a game that has gone beyond regulation, which includes four overtime losses and one shootout loss. "You try and take it for what it is," forward Ryan Getzlaf told the Orange County Register. "We got the game into overtime, and we got a point out of it. You try not to get too high or too low in those things, especially on a road trip. We've got to continue it. If we can get a big win (Sunday), then we're five out of six (points) on the road." Anaheim is 1-0-1 to start a three-game road trip through western Canada that concludes Sunday. Goalie Jonathan Bernier could start for the Ducks after John Gibson made 29 saves in Edmonton. Bernier is 4-1-1 with a 2.02 goals-against average and .933 save percentage in nine games. He made 25 saves in a 4-1 win against the Calgary Flames on Nov. 6.

Flames team scope

Flames forward Johnny Gaudreau will return to the lineup. Gaudreau has missed the past 10 games after having surgery to repair a fractured finger sustained at the Minnesota Wild on Nov. 15. "I'm ready to play," Gaudreau said. "I think the finger's healed up pretty well there. I'm just excited to get things going here." The Flames went 6-3-1 without Gaudreau. "The guys have been doing great without me so I'm just going to try to bring as much energy as I can, find the net a few times," he said. "It's a big game for us." Calgary was 3-7-0 at home to start the season before opening a three-game homestand with back-to-back wins. "I think our whole game was getting better," forward Michael Frolik said. "I think we obviously didn't have the start we were looking for. I think now the structure as a team is much better." Goalie Chad Johnson will make his 10th start in the past 12 games. He is 7-2-0 with a 1.55 GAA and .949 save percentage in that span. "He's been huge," Frolik said. "In this league you need some big saves sometimes to win. He just does that. I'm happy for him, obviously, and for us that he's kind of hot."
