KENNEWICK, Wash. - Ty Rimmer made 31 saves as the Tri-City Americans defeated the visiting Everett Silvertips 4-1 on Friday in Western Hockey League action.
Adam Hughesman scored twice and set up one more for the Americans (50-17-4), who clinched their fourth US Division title in the last five years, while Zachary Yuen and Jordan Messier picked up a goal apiece.
Brendan Shinnimin increased his league-leading point total to 133 with two assists. With a 14-point lead atop the scoring race, it is expected that Shinnimin will win the Bob Clarke trophy as the WHL scoring leader.
Reid Petryk scored the lone goal for the Silvertips (21-40-10), who with the loss moved into a tie with the Seattle Thunderbirds for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Kent Simpson stopped 31 shots in a losing effort.
Tri-City went 0 for 3 on the power play while Everett failed to score on their only opportunity with the man advantage.
