Alfredsson returns to Senators as senior advisor of hockey operations @NHLdotcom

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators have named Daniel Alfredsson as senior advisor of hockey operations.

Alfredsson rejoins the Senators in management after spending 17 seasons with the club as a player.

The 42-year-old will serve as an advisor to general manager Bryan Murray and will support hockey operations at the NHL level from scouting to player development.

Alfredsson's move into the front office has long been rumoured, especially after he and the Senators smoothed over their situation last year when he announced his retirement.

More coming.
