Alexander Avtsin and Mike Blunden lead Bulldogs past Americans for 2-1 win

HAMILTON - Alexander Avtsin and Mike Blunden both scored in the second period Sunday as the Hamilton Bulldogs beat the Rochester Americans 2-1 in American Hockey League play.

Nathan Lawson made 15 saves in net for Hamilton (10-13-2), which won its second game in a row.

Travis Turnbull had the only goal for Rochester (11-11-4), while David Leggio stopped 33 shots.

Blunden scored the winner on high shot from the slot that beat Leggio 8:34 into the second period.

Turnbull scored 3:22 into the first period to give the Americans an early 1-0 lead.

It was a chippy game with three fights in the first two periods.

Although both teams earned 27 penalty minutes, neither could score on their five power plays.
