Ovechkin passes Jagr for most regular-season overtime goals

What you need to know to start your NHL day @NHLdotcom

Alex Ovechkin of the Washington Capitals made some more history on Friday.

After T.J. Oshie scored the game-tying goal with 1:01 remaining in the third period, Ovechkin became the first NHL player with 20 regular-season overtime goals when he scored at 1:56 of OT to give the Capitals a 4-3 victory against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena on Friday.

Overtime goal No. 20 moved Ovechkin past Jaromir Jagr of the Calgary Flames for the most in NHL history. It was his 10th goal of the season; he's the first player to reach double figures in 2017-18.

The goal was the 96th game-winner of Ovechkin's NHL career, moving him into a tie with Hockey Hall of Famer Mats Sundin for 11th place in NHL history.

That's Aus-ome

Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews likes to have some fun, so he found an interesting way to sign the stick of Senators goalie Craig Anderson, who played during Matthews' historic four-goal NHL debut.

A little help from my friends

The young woman performing "The Star-Spangled Banner" at the San Jose Sharks-New Jersey Devils game had a little trouble with the lyrics, but never fear, fans in attendance gave her the assist

What a Knight!

Students from a Las Vegas elementary school made a huge Golden Knights logo and it came out pretty great.

The future is now

Oilers captain Connor McDavid was named one of GQ Magazine's "10 Greatest Athletes of the Future" along with contemporaries from others sports such as Odell Beckham Jr. and Joel Embiid.

Canucks defenseman Michael Del Zotto had a funny moment with a young fan in the crowd, who he initially scared but eventually won over.

Tweet from @Canucks: Well that didnt go as planned
