Alex Ovechkin's second-period hat trick for the Washington Capitals against the Minnesota Wild on Thursday moved him past Montreal Canadiens great Jean Beliveau on the NHL all-time goals list.
Ovechkin scored at 2:14, 5:21 and 14:55 of the period to give him 509 NHL goals, two more than Beliveau for 39th place in League history.

They also gave Ovechkin 34 goals this season, putting him one ahead of Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks for the NHL lead.
