WPG@WSH: Crowd celebrates Ovechkin's 801st goal

On Friday, Alex got a Standing Ovi.

Washington Capitals fans gave their captain Alex Ovechkin an extended standing ovation to celebrate his milestone 801st NHL goal on Friday.
Ovechkin scored from the right circle against the Winnipeg Jets to tie "Mr. Hockey" himself, Gordie Howe, for second place on the career goals list.
Ovechkin acknowledged the adoring crowd at Capital One Arena, standing and waving to fans during the ovation.
Teammates mobbed Ovechkin after the goal, which the team shared on social media and called a "GR801 celly."

Slapshot, the team's mascot, flipped the Ovechkin goal counter over to 801.

Ovechkin was interviewed at the game's intermission.
"It's great to be in (Howe's) company," Ovechkin said. "And obviously it's pretty special."
Ovechkin wasn't done making history for the night, scoring his 802nd goal to pass Howe for second place on an empty-net goal in the third period.

After the game, the Jets lined up to shake hands with the Captials captain and congratulate him on his historic night.

Only 92 more goals until the next NHL record.
