Alex Grant scores shootout winner as Sea Dogs come back to beat Mooseheads

Alex Grant scored the only goal in a shootout as the Saint John Sea Dogs erased a two-goal third-period deficit and beat the Halifax Mooseheads 5-4 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action Tuesday.

Michael Kirkpatrick led the Sea Dogs (17-10-1-1) in regulation with two goals and two assists. Christopher DiDomenico and Ryan Sparling added a goal and an assist each.

Yuri Cheremetiev scored twice and Graham Bona added a goal and two assists for Halifax (8-18-1-1). Gerrad Grant also scored, while Tomas Knotek contributed three assists.

Victoriaville beat Val-d'Or 5-4 in a shootout in the only other QMJHL game Tuesday.

At Halifax, Robert Mayer made 32 saves for Saint John while Mathieu Corbeil-Theriault stopped 29 shots for the Mooseheads.

Tigres 5 Foreurs 4 (SO)

At Victoriaville, Que., Andrej Nestrasil scored the only shootout goal as the Tigres beat Val-d'Or.

Nestrasil twice in regulation, including the game-tying goal with 12 seconds remaining. Maxime Tanguay and David Cliche also scored for Victoriaville (12-17-0-0).

Maxime Sauve, with two, Francois Gauthier and Alexandre Monahan scored for the Foreurs (4-20-1-3).
