SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. - Edmonton Oil Kings netminder Alex Archibald stopped two out of three shootout shots, and he ended the game with a 39-save performance in a 4-3 victory over the host Swift Current Broncos in Western Hockey League action Saturday night.
Archibald improved to 6-5-1-1 after making 28 saves in regulation and another eight saves in overtime before earning the shootout win with saves on Dale Weise and Keegan Dansereau.
Both Robin Figren and Brent Henke scored shootout goals for the Oil Kings.
Edmonton forced overtime when Cameron Cepek scored with 12:17 left in regulation. The Oil Kings also had first period goals from Figren and Brent Raedeke.
Swift Current had scored three consecutive goals to briefly take a 3-2 lead, with import forward David Stieler scoring twice and Zack Smith adding the other goal.
Broncos goaltender Travis Yonkman has now dropped three shootout decisions and he yielded three goals on 18 shots in regulation.
Edmonton is now on a franchise record four game winning streak and improve to 8-6-1-2. The Oil Kings have also won the opener in a six-game road swing while Edmonton's Rexall Place prepares to host the Canadian Finals Rodeo.
The single point improves Swift Current's record to 11-5-0-3 and gives them sole possession of first place in the East Division.
The contest was the fourth and final meeting of the season between the teams, with Edmonton winning a pair of shootout decisions and Swift Current claiming a pair of regulation victories.
