Aleardi scores three goals as Whalers beat fading Greyhounds, 5-3

SAULT STE MARIE, Ont. - Alex Aleardi scored three goals as the Plymouth Whalers beat the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 5-3 in Ontario Hockey League action Wednesday.

Mitchell Heard and Jamie Devane also scored for the Whalers in the win, while Rickard Rakell added a pair of assists.

Mark Petaccio had a pair of goals for the Greyhounds in the loss. Ryan Sproul also scored.

Goaltender Scott Wedgewood stopped 27 shots for the Whalers (48-16-3).

Goaltender Jack Campbell stopped 16 of 21 shots before being pulled after the Whalers fifth goal. Matt Murray stopped all eight shots he faced the rest of the way for the Greyhounds (37-33-6).

The Greyhounds are going to need some help if they hope to make the playoffs. They trail the Guelph Storm by four points with two games remaining in the regular season.
