PLYMOUTH, Mich. - Brandon Alderson scored three times as the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds downed the host Plymouth Whalers 7-3 on Saturday in Ontario Hockey League play.
Nick Cousins and Ryan Sproul each had a goal and an assist for the Greyhounds (24-19-3) while Andrew Fritsch and Alex Gudbranson scored a goal apiece.
Ryan Hartman, Vincent Trocheck and Danny Vanderwiel scored for the Whalers (22-14-8), who had their three-game win streak halted.
Sault Ste. Marie's Matt Murray made 41 saves for the win as Plymouth's Matt Mahalak took the loss after allowing four goals on 20 shots through 29 minutes of action. Alex Nedeljkovic came in midway through the second period and stopped 12-of-14 shots in relief.
The Greyhounds went 2 for 5 on the power play while the Whalers scored once on eight chances with the man advantage. Both clubs scored two short-handed goals.
