Akeson has four points as Rangers beat Knights 8-4, close in on OHL semis

LONDON, Ont. - Jason Akeson had two goals and two assists as the Kitchener Rangers moved within a game of reaching the Ontario Hockey League Western Conference final with a 8-4 win over the London Knights on Thursday.

The Rangers lead the Western Conference semifinal 3-2 after scoring eight goals for a second consecutive night. Akeson scored in overtime in Kitchener's 8-7 win over the Knights on Wednesday.

The Rangers can close out the series with a win at home on Saturday.

Chris MacKinnon had two goals and an assist and Gabriel Landeskog scored twice Kitchener. Dan Kelly and Matthew Tipoff also scored.

Jared Knight, Kalle Ekelund, Seth Griffith and Justin Taylor replied for London.

Knights forward Nazem Kadri was held without a point for the first time in post-season play. He had at least two points a game since Feb. 28.

Brandon Maxwell made 25 saves for Kitchener.

London starter Michael Houser allowed three goals on eight shots before being replaced by Michael Hutchinson, who stopped 23 of 28 shots he faced.
