Six NHL executives are part of the formation of a Return to Play task force announced by the American Hockey League on Monday.

Winnipeg Jets chairman and governor Mark Chipman has joined NHL general managers Kyle Dubas (Toronto Maple Leafs), Ken Holland (Edmonton Oilers), David Poile (Nashville Predators), Don Sweeney (Boston Bruins) and Steve Yzerman (Detroit Red Wings) on a task force also comprised of AHL team presidents and ownership representatives. The group will be chaired by outgoing AHL president and CEO David Andrews.

The task force will not have any operational or management responsibility for executing a return to play. They will provide leadership in developing or identifying opportunities for a return-to-play process that can gain widespread support in the AHL and NHL.

The AHL suspended its season March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus and canceled the remainder of the regular season and the Calder Cup Playoffs on May 11. There were 209 regular-season games remaining.
