After wild shootout win, Ducks head to Vancouver

DUCKS (14-13-3) at CANUCKS (14-8-3)

Season Series: This is the second of four meetings between the teams. They last faced each other on Oct. 13, when Anaheim earned a 4-3 victory at the Honda Center. Bobby Ryan had a goal and three assists for the Ducks.

Big Story: Thanks to a wild win in Edmonton on Tuesday night, the Ducks moved above the .500 mark and into third place in the Pacific Division, ahead of both Los Angeles and San Jose. Rookie defenseman Cam Fowler got his team an extra point in the standings when he blazed a wrist shot past Nikolai Khabibulin in the 10th round of the shootout.

Team Scope:

Ducks: Anaheim had a chance to win the shootout in every round after the first, but couldn't score until Fowler's sizzler beat Khabibulin. The rookie defenseman, in his 24th NHL game, turned 19 on Sunday.

Joffrey Lupul, who recently returned to the lineup after suffering from a blood infection, had a goal to give the Ducks the lead in the shootout's first round. Taylor Hall answered in the third round for Edmonton.

"I asked him and I asked a few guys," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. "He (Fowler) was, 'I don't know, I think I can do it.' Then, he goes out and does it.

"Some guys kind of hide. Other guys like to step up. When it goes that deep and you've got 10 shooters, you need a break to go your way. Both goaltenders made some big stops."

Canucks: Vancouver will be aiming to bounce back from a 3-2 loss to the St. Louis Blues at Rogers Arena on Sunday night. It snapped a four-game winning streak for the Canucks, who remain atop the Northwest Division.

"They weren't giving us much room out there," said goalie Roberto Luongo, who made 25 saves. "In those cases we've got to get ugly goals, like they did."

Who's Hot: Saku Koivu had a goal and an assist for the Ducks on Tuesday night. … The Sedin twins have combined for a combined 61 points in 25 games. Daniel Sedin has 14 goals and 17 assists, while Henrik Sedin has 3 goals and 27 assists.

Injury Report: Ducks forward Aaron Voros is suffering from the flu but is eligible to be activated. He did not play in Edmonton. … Canucks forward Mikael Samuelsson suffered a concussion on Sunday and will miss a week. Alexandre Bolduc (ankle), Gulliaume Desbiens (hand) and Sami Salo (ACL) are out.

Stat Pack: Koivu's goal in the second period on Tuesday night ended Anaheim's scoring drought at 146 minutes, 5 seconds. … A Canucks defenseman has scored in each of the club's last six games.

Puck Drop:  "It was definitely entertaining, but I'm probably saying that because I'm on the winning end." -- Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler after scoring in the 10th round of the shootout on Tuesday
