5 THINGS: Droughts end as Oil win

The Oilers admittedly didn't play their best game, but the only thing that matters is the two points they added to the bank. With a 4-3 overtime win over the visiting Florida Panthers, Edmonton moved to 25-15-7 on the season. Here are five things to take from the win.

1. DROUGHT NO MORE
Two of the Oilers longest goal droughts came to a halt Wednesday night as Jordan Eberle and Zack Kassian each lit the lamp.
Kassian opened the scoring, burying a beautiful feed from Connor McDavid at 6:10 of the first. After some uncertainty from Kassian as to whether or not he was offside, the forward was able to celebrate his third of the season.
"I think Kass has more disallowed goals than goals now during this season, which is real unfortunate for him," said Oilers Head Coach Todd McLellan. "He's a pretty good soldier. He shows up and knows where he is in the lineup, he's accepted the penalty kill, so for him to get a goal is good."
Kassian hadn't scored in 37 games.

The storyline of the night, however, was Eberle shedding the monkey off his back. The skilled winger went 18 games without a tally, but scored a big one when his team needed him the most. Eberle scored the equalizer late in the game to send things to overtime.
"It's been tough," Eberle admitted. "Obviously, when you're known as a goal scorer that's what you like to do. The frustrating thing is I've had so many chances and just haven't finished. It was nice to contribute in a time when we needed a goal to get two points."
2. THE 100 CLUB
With McDavid's assist on Kassian's goal he recorded his 100th career point in his 92nd game.
He then proceeded to record points number 101 and 102, with the 102nd being the game-winning goal with 2.6 seconds left in overtime.

"With Connor, it almost gets old talking about it - and it shouldn't, because he's 19 years old and doing what he does," said McLellan. "He rises to the occasion in overtime, had a couple helpers tonight. But I think when you get to that point where you're scoring a point per game or more at this level, regardless of how old you are or how many years in the League, you've arrived and you're one of the top players."
Lost in the overtime celebrations was McDavid's linemate Leon Draisaitl recording his 100th career point on the game-winner as well, notching an assist.
Draisaitl has been red-hot for the Oil, and has five points in his last four games.
3. OT AGAIN
The Oilers should be used to overtime by now, as 13 of their last 26 games have been decided past three periods.
"It's crazy," said defenceman Oscar Klefbom. "There are so many games that are so tight. It's one-goal games almost every night. It's something we have to prepare ourselves for. It's going to be like this all the way through the playoffs. We have to find a way to win, like we did today."
The Oilers are finding ways to win tight games. Eight of their last 10 victories have been decided by one goal.

"The games are so tight now, especially in the West," said Kassian. "We need to feel comfortable in playing those games. As we get closer to the playoffs, they're all going to be like that."
4. POWER-PLAY WEAPON

Mark Letestu's power-play prowess isn't much of a secret. He's always been a special teams weapon in the NHL, whether it's killing penalties or scoring on them.
Letestu tallied a man-advantage goal against Florida, bringing his total to five on the season. That total ties his career high, set in 2013-14 with Columbus.

He's on pace to best his career highs in power-play goals, points and even shorthanded goals - he has two this season, tying a career high - and he's just 44 games into his season.
5. HOME-ICE ADVANTAGE
The Oilers have won four straight at Rogers Place, establishing their longest stretch of its kind this season.
The Oilers have moved to 13-8-2 in Edmonton on the season. It's good to establish a strength here now, with 11 of 13 games in March at home.
