Panthers clinch Atlantic title, defeat Canadiens

Barkov scores fifth goal in four games to help Florida win division

MONTREAL -- The Florida Panthers took a big step toward their latest goal with a 4-1 win against the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday.

And 10 minutes later, watching on TV from their Bell Centre dressing room, they reached it by winning the Atlantic Division when the Tampa Bay Lightning lost 3-2 to the New York Rangers.

Panthers' Campbell plays 1,000th game

Florida defenseman has been with four teams since being drafted in 1997

MONTREAL -- Florida Panthers defenseman Brian Campbell took the ice for his 1,000th NHL game at Bell Centre on Tuesday, an accomplishment made that much sweeter by the number of times he was overlooked in his career.

"It means a lot to me," Campbell said prior to the game. "A lot of hard work went into it, I wasn't just kind of given it. It wasn't given to me right away, it took me a few years to establish myself. I don't think the odds were too good that I was going to get to this point, you can ask a lot of people."
