by Katie Brown / Correspondent

WASHINGTON -- The Anaheim Ducks didn't even consider resting their best players with the Pacific Division title on the line.

"There was no question," forward Corey Perry said. "We were never asked."

Alex Ovechkin may have been a healthy scratch in the Washington Capitals' final game of the regular season on Sunday, but he still got a workout.

Holtby OK with sitting out finale, tying wins record

Trotz says Capitals' pursuit of Stanley Cup more important than 'individual glory'

by Tom Gulitti @tomgulittinhl / Staff Writer

WASHINGTON -- If the Washington Capitals held any kind of internal debate about whether to start Braden Holtby against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday, it apparently didn't last very long.

The Capitals' goaltending plan entering the weekend was to split their final two regular-games between Holtby and backup Philipp Grubauer. That Holtby equaled Martin Brodeur's NHL single-season record Saturday against the St. Louis Blues by earning his 48th win wasn't going to change anything.

Capitals' Williams plays 1,000th NHL game

Forward has overcome injuries early in career to reach milestone

by Tom Gulitti @tomgulittinhl / Regional Writer

WASHINGTON -- There was a time in Justin Williams' younger days when he couldn't seem to stay healthy.

Repeated injuries to his left knee, a torn Achilles tendon and a fractured ankle threatened to derail what has become a distinguished career. But the Washington Capitals right wing rebounded from them to reach a significant milestone Sunday against the Anaheim Ducks at Verizon Center. It was the 1,000th regular-season game in the NHL for Williams; he's the 304th player in League history to reach that mark.

Holtby won't start, unlikely to break wins record

Goaltender to serve as backup in Capitals' regular-season finale @NHL

Washington Capitals goalie Braden Holtby will not start against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday (7:30 p.m. ET; NHLN, SN, SN360, PRIME, CSN-DC), making it unlikely that he'll break NHL single-season record for victories.

Holtby, who tied the mark set by Martin Brodeur in the 2006-07 season with his 48th win in a 5-1 victory against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday, will back up Philipp Grubauer.
