Zuccarello, Rangers defeat Sabres

Forward's goal, two assists help New York past Buffalo

BUFFALO -- The New York Rangers haven't lost back-to-back games since December and backup goalie Antti Raanta made sure that stayed true on Tuesday.

Mats Zuccarello had a goal and two assists, and Raanta made 34 saves to lead the Rangers to a 4-2 win against the Buffalo Sabres at First Niagara Center.

At 16:57 of the second period in the Rangers/Sabres game, the Situation Room initiated a video review to further examine a play at the Buffalo net. The referee informed the Situation Room that he was in the process of blowing his whistle to stop play before the puck crossed the goal line. According to Rule 78.5, apparent goals shall be disallowed "when the Referee deems the play has been stopped, even if he had not physically had the opportunity to stop play by blowing his whistle." This is not a reviewable play therefore the referee's call on the ice stands - no goal New York.

New York Rangers defensemen Marc Staal and Dylan McIlrath will each miss the game Tuesday against the Buffalo Sabres (7 p.m. ET; MSG+, BELL TV, MSG-B, NHL.TV).

Goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and forward Rick Nash, each of whom took part in practice Monday, will also not make the trip to Buffalo, according to the Rangers.
