TORONTO -- Dion Phaneuf's happy homecoming very nearly came unglued all of five seconds into the game between his Ottawa Senators and his former Toronto Maple Leafs at Air Canada Centre on Saturday.

"Look at the first shift and wow, I thought it was going to be a long night," Phaneuf said with a grin following the Senators' 3-2 victory.

TORONTO -- Dion Phaneuf said it was perfect closure. 

The 30-year-old defenseman enjoyed a successful homecoming when his Ottawa Senators scored twice in the third period to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 at Air Canada Centre on Saturday.

Ottawa Senators defenseman Dion Phaneuf received a video tribute from his former team, the Toronto Maple Leafs, on Saturday in his first game at Air Canada Centre since being traded.

Toronto traded Phaneuf, who was Maple Leafs captain for 397 games, to Ottawa on Feb. 9.

Nylander scored from between the circles after the Maple Leafs won a faceoff in the Senators zone.
