Stars end four-game slide by defeating Devils

DALLAS -- The Dallas Stars ended a four-game losing streak by defeating the New Jersey Devils 4-2 at American Airlines Center on Friday.

Valeri Nichushkin and Colton Sceviour each had a goal and an assist for the Stars (39-20-7), who won at home for the first time since a 4-3 victory against the Washington Capitals on Feb. 13. Jason Spezza and Vernon Fiddler scored for Dallas, and Mattias Janmark and Alex Goligoski each had two assists.

A Dallas Stars cheerleader accepted a marriage proposal from her boyfriend during intermission Friday night. 

The cheerleader, Melissa, had just finished a routine when her boyfriend, Nick, came up to her, knelt down and proposed. When she said yes, he slipped an engagement ring onto her finger as fans cheered.

RANGERS DEFEAT LEAGUE-LEADING CAPITALS
After seeing their 2-0 lead erased in the second period, Derek Stepan (1-1-2) scored the go-ahead goal just 17 seconds into the final stanza to lead the New York Rangers past the NHL-leading Washington Capitals for their fourth win in five games (4-1-0).

* At 38-21-6 (82 points), the Rangers increased their lead to five points over the idle New York Islanders (35-20-7, 77 points) for second place in the Metropolitan Division.

* Stepan scored his fifth game-winning goal of the season and had an assist for his seventh multiple-point game of the season.
