WASHINGTON -- They have accomplished much of what they set out to do this season, but the Washington Capitals aren't going to celebrate just yet.

"There's not going to be a champagne party or anything like that," Capitals coach Barry Trotz said after his team clinched the Presidents' Trophy with a 4-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Verizon Center on Monday. "There's a sense of fulfillment that we said we were going to do some things and we accomplished them so far and we've still got some things to accomplish. The season's not over because we wrapped this up."

The Washington Capitals clinched the Presidents' Trophy on Monday with a 4-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets, and will try to become the ninth team to win the Stanley Cup in the same season.

Of the 29 previous winners, eight have gone on to hoist the Cup. The last was the Chicago Blackhawks in 2012-13. Prior to that, the Detroit Red Wings accomplished the feat in 2007-08.

Mike Marson, the second black NHL player and former Capital, joins Washington's broadcast to talk about his career

WASHINGTON -- Former NHL player Mike Marson, the second black player in the League and first to play for the Washington Capitals, was honored with a video tribute when he attended the Washington Capitals game against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

Marson, who was recently featured in the documentary film "Soul on Ice: Past, Present & Future," played 193 games for the Capitals in their early days as an expansion team from 1974-79. He played three games for the Los Angeles Kings in 1979-80 before his NHL career ended.

The Capitals lead the NHL with 111 points and are tied for the sixth-most wins (53) through a team's first 74 games of a season in League history.
