Pittsburgh moves within three points of New York for second place in division

NEW YORK -- The Pittsburgh Penguins are chasing the New York Rangers for second place in the Metropolitan Division, but Pittsburgh doesn't have to catch New York to feel confident about defeating the Rangers should they meet in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. 

The Penguins, at least for now, appear to have the Rangers' number.

Blackhawks clinch playoffs for eighth straight season

Andrew Ladd scored the game-winning goal with 2:27 remaining in regulation to help the Blackhawks clinch a berth in the 2016 Stanley Cup Playoffs, their eighth consecutive postseason appearance. 

* At 44-25-7 (95 points), the Blackhawks moved within four points of the idle St. Louis Blues (45-22-9, 99 points) for second place in the Central Division.

Penguins' Kunitz in lineup against Rangers

Forward was questionable after sustaining upper-body injury Saturday

NEW YORK -- Left wing Chris Kunitz is in the Pittsburgh Penguins' lineup against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday. 

Kunitz was considered a game-time decision because of an upper-body injury he sustained in the second period of Pittsburgh's 7-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. He started the game in his usual place on the top line with center Sidney Crosby and right wing Patric Hornqvist.

MONTREAL -- The New York Rangers want home-ice advantage in the Eastern Conference First Round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and they have a golden opportunity Sunday to greatly increase their chances of achieving that goal.

But they will need to beat one of the hottest teams in the NHL to do it.
