Fall five points behind Wild in wild-card race, not ready to give up hope

DENVER -- Mission impossible? Not as far as the Colorado Avalanche are concerned.

The Avalanche realize it will be difficult to overtake the Minnesota Wild for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference after their 4-0 loss to them Saturday at Pepsi Center.

Minnesota increases wild-card lead over Colorado to five points

DENVER -- Devan Dubnyk made 29 saves and Zach Parise had two goals when the Minnesota Wild defeated the Colorado Avalanche 4-0 at Pepsi Center on Saturday.

The win was the fifth in a row for the Wild (37-28-11), who increased their lead to five points ahead of the Avalanche for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.

Colorado (38-32-4) trails Minnesota (36-28-11) by three points in what has become a two-team race for the second wild card into the playoffs from the Western Conference.
