Elliott's shutout helps Blues clinch playoff berth

Brian Elliott (15 saves) had his third consecutive shutout to lead the St. Louis Blues to their ninth victory in 11 games and clinch their fifth consecutive playoff berth.

* At 44-22-9 (97 points), the Blues also moved pulled even with the idle Dallas Stars (44-22-9, 97 points) in terms of points for first place in the Central Division and Western Conference. Dallas holds the ROW tiebreaker (DAL: 42, STL: 39).

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues became the fourth team from the Western Conference to clinch a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs by defeating the Vancouver Canucks 4-0 at Scottrade Center on Friday.

They did it with authority after learning a lesson following back-to-back losses last week at the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers, two teams out of the playoff race.

A victory in any fashion against the Canucks clinches a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the Blues. A victory also pulls the Blues into a tie for first in the Central Division with the Dallas Stars at 97 points.
