1. Patrick Kane's points per 60

Kane averaged 2.66 points per 60 minutes of 5-on-5 ice time last season, 11th in the NHL among skaters to play at least 60 games. The right wing's scoring pace was impressive considering he averaged the fifth-most 5-on-5 ice time per game (16:27) among forwards to play at least 60 games, behind Mark Scheifele of the Winnipeg Jets (16:54), Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs (16:35), Connor McDavid of the Edmonton Oilers (16:32) and Jack Eichel of the Buffalo Sabres (16:28). Kane's scoring production carried over to the postseason, when he averaged 2.71 points per 60 minutes, which was 16th among those to play at least five games.

2. 5-on-5 save percentage

The Blackhawks were eighth in 5-on-5 save percentage at .925 last season. They were strong in this category partly because of goalie Corey Crawford, who was third in the NHL (minimum 40 games) with a .926 even-strength save percentage, behind Tuukka Rask of the Boston Bruins (.939) and Connor Hellebuyck of the Winnipeg Jets (.927). Crawford signed a two-year contract with the New Jersey Devils on Oct. 10. Among Crawford's potential replacements, Malcolm Subban had an .897 even-strength save percentage in 21 games with the Blackhawks and Vegas Golden Knights last season; Collin Delia has a .917 even-strength save percentage in 18 NHL games but hasn't played in the League since 2018-19; and Kevin Lankinen has never played an NHL game.

3. Shot attempts percentage

The Blackhawks had a shot attempts percentage of 48.5 percent in the regular season, which was tied with the Jets for 21st in the NHL, and they were last among the 24 teams to reach the postseason at 42.3 percent. Chicago was minus-129 in SAT differential during the postseason (482-353), when its 5-on-5 save percentage dropped to .914 from .925 in the regular season. This trend is important for the Blackhawks, who have three inexperienced goalies competing for playing time this season. If the Blackhawks' negative SAT rate continues, their goalies will be under pressure to play above expectations, which could make for a difficult season.
