Status of 31 players chosen in opening round in Vancouver

The 31 players picked in the first round of the 2019 NHL Draft have NHL hopes. Some have gotten a start toward that goal by signing a three-year, entry-level contract.

More could sign as we get closer to the start of the 2019-20 season.

Here is a look at which players have signed and the status of the others:

1. Jack Hughes, C, New Jersey Devils (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract July 12. Expected to be in Devils opening-night lineup.

2. Kaapo Kakko, RW, New York Rangers (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract July 11. Expected to start season as top-six forward in NHL.

3. Kirby Dach, C, Chicago Blackhawks (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract July 8. Will compete for a roster spot during training camp or could return to Saskatoon of the Western Hockey League.

4. Bowen Byram, D, Colorado Avalanche (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract July 19. Will compete for a roster spot during training camp but could return to Vancouver of the WHL.

5. Alex Turcotte, C, Los Angeles Kings (unsigned)

Committed to play at the University of Wisconsin.

6. Moritz Seider, D, Detroit Red Wings (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract July 14. Could play for Grand Rapids in the American Hockey League, but likely will play at least one more season with Mannheim in Germany's top league. Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League owns his Canadian Hockey League rights.

7. Dylan Cozens, C, Buffalo Sabres (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract July 15. Will compete for roster spot during training camp or could return to Lethbridge of the WHL.

8. Philip Broberg, D, Edmonton Oilers (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract July 4. Will compete for a roster spot during training camp but also could continue his development with Bakersfield of the AHL or with Skelleftea of the Swedish Hockey League.

9. Trevor Zegras, C, Anaheim Ducks (unsigned)

Committed to play at Boston University.

10. Vasily Podkolzin, RW, Vancouver Canucks (unsigned)

Has two seasons left on a contract with SKA St. Petersburg of the Kontinental Hockey League.

11. Victor Soderstrom, D, Arizona Coyotes (signed)

Sgined a three-year, entry-level contract July 7. He has one season left on a contract with Brynas of the SHL.

12. Matthew Boldy, LW, Minnesota Wild (unsigned)

Committed to play at Boston College.

13. Spencer Knight, G, Florida Panthers (unsigned)

Committed to play at Boston College.

14. Cameron York, D, Philadelphia Flyers (unsigned)

Committed to play at the University of Michigan.

15. Cole Caufield, RW, Montreal Canadiens (unsigned)

Committed to play at the University of Wisconsin.

16. Alex Newhook, C, Colorado Avalanche (unsigned)

Committed to play at Boston College.

17. Peyton Krebs, C, Vegas Golden Knights (unsigned)

Expected to play for Winnipeg of the WHL after recovering from surgery June 7 to repair a partially torn Achilles tendon.

18. Thomas Harley, D, Dallas Stars (unsigned)

Expected to play with Mississauga of the OHL.

19. Lassi Thomson, D, Ottawa Senators (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract July 15. Has a contract to play next season with Ilves in Liiga, Finland's top league.

20. Ville Heinola, D, Winnipeg Jets (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract July 15. Has a contract to play next season with Lukko in Liiga.

21. Samuel Poulin, RW, Pittsburgh Penguins (unsigned)

Expected to play with Sherbrooke of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

22. Tobias Bjornfot, D, Los Angeles Kings (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract July 14. Has two seasons remaining on a contract with Djurgarden in the SHL.

23. Simon Holmstrom, RW, New York Islanders (agreed to terms)

Agreed to a three-year, entry-level contract July 15. Expected to play with HV 71 in the SHL.

24. Philip Tomasino, C, Nashville Predators (unsigned)

Expected to play with Niagara of the OHL.

25. Connor McMichael, C, Washington Capitals (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract July 12. Expected to play with London of the OHL.

26. Jakob Pelletier, LW, Calgary Flames (unsigned)

Expected to play with Moncton of the QMJHL.

27. Nolan Foote, LW, Tampa Bay Lightning (signed)

Signed a three-year, entry-level contract June 25. Expected to play with Kelowna of the WHL.

28. Ryan Suzuki, C, Carolina Hurricanes (unsigned)

Expected to play with Barrie of the OHL.

29. Brayden Tracey, LW, Anaheim Ducks (unsigned)

Expected to play with Moose Jaw of the WHL.

30. John Beecher, C, Boston Bruins (unsigned)

Committed to play at the University of Michigan.

31. Ryan Johnson, D, Buffalo Sabres (unsigned) 

Committed to play at the University of Minnesota.
