Forsberg's hat trick helps Predators top Maple Leafs

Nashville earns points in ninth straight road game

by Mike Brophy / NHL.com Correspondent

TORONTO -- Filip Forsberg had a natural hat trick and the Nashville Predators held off the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 at Air Canada Centre on Tuesday.

Forsberg, who scored two goals in Nashville's first four games this season and then went 17 straight games without scoring, took over the team lead in goals with 23, passing James Neal (21). It was his first regular-season NHL hat trick; he had one during Nashville's Western Conference First Round series against the Chicago Blackhawks last spring.

2/23/16: The Maple Leafs challenge that Ryan Ellis was off-side on his goal in the 2nd and, after a review, the goal is overturned

  • 00:53 •

At 17:55 of the second period in the Predators/Maple Leafs game, Toronto requested a Coach's Challenge to review whether Nashville was off-side prior to Ryan Ellis' goal.

After reviewing all available replays and consulting with NHL Hockey Operations staff, the Linesman determined that Nashville's Mike Fisher was off-side prior to the goal. According to Rule 78.7, "The standard for overturning the call in the event of a 'GOAL' call on the ice is that the Linesman, after reviewing any and all available replays and consulting with the Toronto Video Room, determines that one or more Players on the attacking team preceded the puck into the attacking zone prior to the goal being scored and that, as a result, the play should have been stopped for an "Off-side" infraction; where this standard is met, the goal will be disallowed."
