Situation Room: Overturned call results in goal

2/20/16: After a no-goal call on the ice and a video review, Loui Eriksson is awarded his 21st goal of the season

  • 02:10 •

At 19:08 of the second period in the Bruins/Stars game, the Situation Room initiated a video review after the puck entered the Dallas net. Video review determined that Loui Eriksson's shot crossed the goal line as the culmination of a continuous play where the result was unaffected by the whistle. Therefore the goal stands in accordance with Rule 38.4 (viii) which states, in part: "The video review process shall be permitted to assist the Referees in determining the legitimacy of all potential goals (e.g. to ensure they are "good hockey goals") ... this would also include situations whereby the Referee stops play or is in the process of stopping the play because he has lost sight of the puck and it is subsequently determined by video review that the puck crosses (or has crossed) the goal line and enters the net as the culmination of a continuous play where the result was unaffected by the whistle (i.e., the timing of the whistle was irrelevant to the puck entering the net at the end of a continuous play)." Good goal Boston.

Situation Room: Sharp's goal stands in the 1st

2/20/16: Patrick Sharp scores a goal as a defender knocks the net off, and after review, the call stands as a good goal

  • 01:27 •

At 16:28 of the first period in the Bruins/Stars game, the Situation Room initiated a video review to examine whether the puck crossed the Boston goal line before the net was displaced. The referee informed the Situation Room that if the puck entered the net between the normal position of the goal posts, a goal would be awarded. Video review confirmed that this indeed was the case, therefore a goal was awarded in accordance with Rule 63.6: "In the event that the goal post is displaced, either deliberately or accidentally, prior to the puck crossing the normal positions of the goal posts, the referee may award a goal. In order to award a goal in this situation, the goal post must have been displaced by the actions of a defending player, the puck must have been shot (or the player must be in the act of shooting) at the goal prior to the goal post being displaced, and it must be determined that the puck would have entered the net between the normal position of the goal posts. The goal frame is considered to be displaced if either or both goal pegs are no longer in their respective holes in the ice, or the net has come completely off one or both pegs, prior to or as the puck enters the goal." Good goal Dallas.

At 15:44 of the first period in the Bruins/Stars game, video review supported the referee's call on the ice that Antoine Roussel's stick was at or below the level of the crossbar when he deflected the puck into the net. According to Rule 38.4 (vi) "The determining factor is where the puck makes contact with the stick in relation to the crossbar. If the puck makes contact with the portion of the stick that is at or below the level of the crossbar and enters the goal, this goal shall be allowed." Good goal Dallas.

Bruins' Spooner questionable against Stars

Boston, Dallas juggle line combinations

by Steve Hunt / NHL.com Correspondent

BRUINS (31-21-6) at STARS (37-16-6)

TV: 8 p.m. ET; NESN, FS-SW, NHLN

DALLAS -- The Boston Bruins hope to finish their longest road trip of the season with a win against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Saturday.

Following a 2-0 loss at the Nashville Predators on Thursday, Boston is 3-2-0 on the trip and 19-7-3 on the road. But Bruins coach Claude Julien expects a much better performance against the Stars, who lead the Western Conference with 81 points, than what he saw two nights prior.
