2/19/16: Jeff Skinner pushes in his 20th goal of the season on the power play to extend the Hurricanes' lead in the 3rd period
RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Carolina Hurricanes are not in a Stanley Cup Playoffs position as their season nears the three-quarters mark. But there is a growing sense among the Hurricanes that they are doing more than just playing well: They believe they are going somewhere.
Jeff Skinner scored twice to help Carolina to a 5-2 win against the San Jose Sharks at PNC Arena on Friday.
2/19/16: The Hurricanes challenge the no-goal call on the ice and after video review, Jeff Skinner is awarded his 20th goal of the season
At 0:39 of the third period in the Sharks/Hurricanes game, Carolina requested a Coach's Challenge to review the "Interference on the Goalkeeper" decision that resulted in a "no goal" call. After reviewing all available replays and consulting with NHL Hockey Operations staff, the Referee determined that no goaltender interference infractions occurred before the puck crossed the goal line. The decision was made in accordance with Rule 78.7 (ii) which states, in part, "the attacking Player's positioning within the crease did not impair the goalkeeper's ability to defend his goal and, in fact, had no discernible impact on the play."
Therefore the original call is overturned - good goal Carolina Hurricanes.
