Flyers' Del Zotto expected to miss 'weeks'

PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Michael Del Zotto is expected to miss weeks with an upper-body injury, general manager Ron Hextall said after the Flyers lost 2-1 in overtime to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday at Wells Fargo Center. 

Del Zotto was injured in the third period when he was sent into the net while defending a power move by Devils forward Kyle Palmieri. Hextall said the injury was an ongoing thing and CSN in Philadelphia reported Del Zotto aggravated a lingering wrist injury.

Shayne Gostisbehere of the Philadelphia Flyers set an NHL record for a rookie defenseman with a point in his 11th consecutive game when he scored a power-play goal 3:49 into the third period against the New Jersey Devils on Saturday at Wells Fargo Center.

Gostisbehere broke the record of Barry Beck, who had two 10-game point streaks as a rookie with the Colorado Rockies in the 1977-78 season. Gostisbehere also set a Flyers rookie record for longest point streak, eclipsing the previous mark of 10 games set by Mikael Renberg in 1993-94.

New Jersey Devils forward Joseph Blandisi scored on a between-the-legs move for the opening goal of their game against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday.

With Flyers defenseman Nick Schultz in the penalty box for interference, Blandisi corralled the puck along the goal line to the right of Flyers goalie Michal Neuvirth. As he skated below the goal line, Blandisi put the puck back between his legs and beat Neuvirth with a forehand shot inside the right post.

Season series: The New Jersey Devils and Philadelphia Flyers have split two games this season. On Oct. 29 center Travis Zajac scored two goals in a 4-1 Devils win at Wells Fargo Center. On Dec. 4 forward Matt Read's goal at 3:24 of overtime gave the Flyers a 4-3 win at Prudential Center.
