The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Thursday that defenceman Nathan Dempsey has been recalled from the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League.
Dempsey, 27, has appeared in 52 games for St. John's this season collecting 42 points (seven goals, 35 assists) with 50 penalty minutes. He is currently second in assists and third in points among AHL defencemen.
He played in four pre-season games with Toronto in September collecting one assist with four minutes in penalties. The native of Spruce Grove, Alberta appeared in 25 games with Toronto last season scoring one goal with nine assists.
He has played 45 career NHL games with Toronto and has 14 points (two goals, 12 assists) with eight penalty minutes. Dempsey was Toronto's 12th choice, 245th overall in the 1992 Entry Draft. Dempsey will replace Dmitry Yushkevich who is sidelined indefinitely with a blood clot in his leg.
