World Junior Day Three Wrap Up

by David Alter / Toronto Maple Leafs

Rinat Valiev – Russia

Valiev played a crucial role in shutting down an upstart Switzerland squad. After the Swiss opened with a 5-2 win over the Czech Republic, the Russians brought them down to earth with a 7-0 victory. The Russian defenceman didn’t get in on the offence, but had a hand in keeping the Swiss off the scoresheet when they tried to mount a comeback. Valiev finished with no points, one shot on goal and two penalty minutes.
