Tim Erixon on joining the Leafs

by Chris Lund / Toronto Maple Leafs

New Leafs defender Tim Erixon spoke to the media in Florida today after meeting up with the team. Erixon was claimed off waivers on Sunday. Here's what he had to say...

On becoming a member of the Maple Leafs:

It's very exciting, it's a very famous organization if not the most famous so it's a privilege.

On moving around between multiple teams:

Definitely, it has been a crazy season, that's for sure. This is my third team this year, that's been a little bit different. I'm hoping to stay in one spot for a bit.

On the reasons behind the multiple moves:

I don't know if I could tell you - I had a good start in Columbus, I was playing quite a bit and was traded to Chicago and didn't play much at all. I didn't really have much ice time and they got some cap space there with Kimmo going down. Something was going to happen and it was me.

On his game:

I think I'm an all-around defenceman, I play both ends. Whatever they want me to do, I'll do that.

On if he has talked to Peter Horachek about his role:

I have no idea, I haven't talked to him yet. I've been pretty quick just trying to get here and we'll see tomorrow.

On playing for multiple teams this season:

It has been crazy, for sure. Moving around a lot, you get to know your teammates and then you're pulled out of there. It's a little different but it's exciting to be here now.

On his father's (Jan Erixon) reaction to the trade:

He's excited. It's exciting for sure and especially going through waivers, I had never done that before and didn't know what to expect and it was a long 24 hours.

On going through waivers:

I didn't play much in Chicago and I had a small injury or two so I didn't know what to expect to be honest. It's obviously very disappointing and I had never done that before, so I didn't know what to expect. It turned out good.

On players he knows with the Leafs:

I don't really know anyone... I know (Petter Granberg) and I know Horty (Nathan Horton) from Columbus and Matt Frattin who's with the Marlies. That's about it. It's a lot of new faces.

On if he's comfortable with life in North America:

I think so, I was only two years old when we went back but visiting after that and I've been here for my fourth year now too, which helps.

On if he has spoken to anyone on the team:

I haven't actually, guys are probably sleeping in on the day off so I'm sure I'll talk to a couple.

On joining the Leafs at a time of transition:

I'm just trying to come in and focus on my part, play my game and work hard for the team.
