Tellqvist Re-assigned To St. John's

(December 28, 2003) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Sunday that they have re-assigned goaltender Mikael Tellqvist to the St. John's Maple Leafs of the American Hockey League.

Tellqvist, 24, was the backup goaltender in Saturday's game against the New York Islanders. He has appeared in five games for Toronto this season and has a record of 2-0-2 with a 2.51 goals against average. In addition, he has appeared in eight games for St. John's this year and has a record of 5-3-0 with a 1.99 goals against average.

Tellqvist has played eight career NHL games for Toronto compiling a record of 3-1-2 with a 2.57 goals against average. The native of Sundbyberg, Sweden was Toronto's third choice, 70th overall in the 2000 Entry Draft.
