Team White Defeats Team Blue in Leafs skills competition.

The 15th annual McDonalds Toronto Maple Leafs Skills Competition presented by Rogers took place at Air Canada Centre. In the six skill-challenging events, the White Team defeated the Blue Team by a score of 17-12. Chad Kilger of the White Team won the McDonalds Fastest Skater and the Pizza Pizza Hardest Shot competition. The following is a summary of the 2006 McDonalds Toronto Maple Leaf Skills Competition presented by Rogers results.
  • TORONTO SUN PUCK CONTROL RELAY (Won by Team White)

    In the overall competition the Team White consisting of John Pohl, Ian White, and Alexei Ponikarovsky defeated the Team of Bates Battaglia, Brendan Bell and Alexander Suglobov.  In the one-one-one challenge, Matt Stajan (White) defeated Alex Steen (Blue).

    MCDONALDS FASTEST SKATER (Won by Team White)

    Chad Kilger of the White Team completed the fastest lap of the ice in just 14.233 seconds to win the individual competition. Team White also took the overall event as Chad Kilger, Ian White, Matt Stajan registered the fastest average time of 14.8 seconds.

    PIZZA PIZZA HARDEST SHOT (Won by Team White)

    Chad Kilger of Team White recorded a new National Hockey League record in the hardest shot competition with a drive of 106.6 m.p.h. to win his second consecutive hardest shot competition. His shot surpassed the previous mark of 105.2 m.p.h. set by Al Iafrate. The White Team consisting of Kilger, Hal Gill, Bryan McCabe and Alexei Ponikarovsky won the team hardest shot event with an average speed of 97.2 m.p.h.

    ROGERS SHOOTING ACCURACY
    (Team: Won by Team White / Individual: Pavel Kubina (Team Blue)

    Team White of Alexei Ponikarovsky, Jeff O'Neill and Bryan McCabe defeated Team Blue of Pavel Kubina, Tomas Kaberle, and Nik Antropov.  The White Team hit a total of 11 targets in 21 shots.  Kubina won individual honours by hitting 4 targets on 4 shots.

    DANONE POWER PLAY CHALLENGE (Won by Team White)

    The White Team won the event led by the trio of Ian White, Matt Stajan and Jeff O'Neill who scored three goals.  Goaltender Jean-Sebastien Aubin allowed just three goals against the Blue Team.

    ESSO ON THE RUN SURVIVOR SHOOTOUT
    (Team: Won by Team Blue / Individual: Alexei Ponikarovsky (Team White)

    The Blue Team outscored the White Team 5-2 in this event. Alexei Ponikarovsky surpassed Michael Peca and Alex Steen in the final round of the individual competition to be named the individual winner.

    THE MORE THAN $117,000 IN PROCEEDS FROM THE EVENT WILL BENEFIT THE LEAFS FUND, AND THE NHLPA GOALS AND DREAM FUND. SINCE ITS INCEPTION, THE LEAF SKILLS EVENT HAS RAISED ALMOST $2.5-MILLION FOR THE LEAFS FUND AND NHLPA'S GOALS AND DREAMS FUND.
