The free agent frenzy seems to be drying up a bit after most of the big names have been signed and teams start to try and put some final pieces into their puzzle.
Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin is still the big fish swimming in the free agent pond but it appears more and more to me that if the big Swede is going to come back it will be in a Leafs uniform.
Mats has said he needs more time and maybe a month or so to decide if in fact he wants to play again. Teams like Vancouver
, the Rangers
are not going to be able to wait that long.
Most have to get their ship in order now.
The Leafs it would appear will have the cap room to accommodate Sundin if in fact he wants to return for a full season.
If he decides to follow the Teemu Selanne and Scott Niedermayer path and arrive mid-season, other teams may be in a position to sign the big Swede.
One thing we have learned over the years is that Sundin is true to his word.
I don’t expect that to change now.
Like Brett Farve he is struggling with the idea of playing again or retirement.
