Stralman to Participate in World Championship

Cliff Fletcher, general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs, announced Tuesday that defenceman Anton Stralman will play for Team Sweden at the 2008 IIHF World Championships in Quebec City, Quebec and Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The 6-1, 180 pound native of Tibro, Sweden, was the Toronto Maple Leafs’ fifth choice, 216th overall, in the 2005 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He played with Team Sweden at the 2005 and 2006 World Junior Championships and also at the 2007 World Championships in Moscow, Russia, collecting two points (one goal, one assist) in nine games.  Following its conclusion, he was named one of the top three players on Team Sweden by tournament coaches.

In his rookie season, Stralman played in 50 games for the Maple Leafs, collecting nine points (three goals, six assists) with 18 penalty minutes.
