Sam Carrick was recalled by the Maple Leafs on Wednesday morning prior to their game with the Washington Capitals. Here's what he had to say about re-joining the big club...
On how he found out and the opportunity in front of him:
I heard Tuesday night, they said they were going to call me up and to report to the ACC. I think for myself I just want to bring some grit to the table and try to make plays to create some offence. At the same time I'll be playing a fourth line role and you need to create energy.
On his season with the Marlies through the halfway point:
It has been okay. It's different, we have a bit of a younger team this year than we did last year. Last year it seemed like we were winning all the time and this year it comes down to hard work. Every game is important at this time. We started to pick it up a bit in December, we had a great month and with the new year here we're just trying to build on that.
On his debut helping his confidence at this level:
It was great. They gave me a great opportunity, it was good for the confidence and when I went down there confidence was at an all-time high. It's a lot more comfortable coming up now that I've been up and I want to do anything I can to stay.
On the coaching change:
It's definitely different. I don't think it affects me too much, it's more the guys that have been here a while. For myself, nothing really changes. I'm just trying to do what I can to create energy.
On the mood this week:
It's tough but guys are staying positive. We're looking at the bright side of things. Obviously Randy is a great coach and it's tough to see him go but all we can do is try to create a good atmosphere around here and try to build.
On Marlie teammates in the Leafs dressing room:
There are a lot of familiar faces with the Marlies. That just makes it that much easier to come in here. Steve Spott, I see Steve Staios a lot too, it just makes it that much more comfortable.
