Rookies Open With Win vs. Panthers

(MONTREAL) -- The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Florida Panthers Saturday September 11 by a score of 2-1. The first period was scoreless with Toronto outshooting Florida 13-12. The Maple Leafs scored two goals in the second period to take a 2-0 lead.

Chris St. Jacques took a nice pass from Scott May to score on the powerplay and Rich Peverley scored the second Toronto goal. Florida climbed back into the game scoring midway through the third period but it would be as close as they would come.

J.F. Racine started in goal and stopped 32 of 33 shots to register the victory. Brendan Bell wore the 'C' on his jersey, while Ian White and Jeremy Williams were chosen as alternates.
